About This Product

The CuroCell A4 CX16 is an alternating pressure mattress replacement system from Care of Sweden, built to prevent and treat pressure injuries up to and including category 4. It replaces the existing mattress on a home, aged care or hospital bed frame. The CX16's point of difference is what sits underneath. Its individually replaceable air cells rest on a safety mattress made from HR foam. If the air supply is interrupted or a cell deflates, the person settles onto supportive foam rather than the bed base. It is the model we suggest when that backup layer matters most. An integrated heel function offloads the heels, and a multifunctional inner cover helps reduce shear against the skin. There is nothing to set up. The fully automatic pump recognises the user and adjusts pressure to suit, then keeps working quietly in the background on low voltage 12 V power. Pulsating, Alternating and CLP (constant low pressure) programs cover different care plans, Caring mode (max firm) helps with transfers and personal care, and audible and visual notifications flag anything that needs a look. Smart cable management and soft pump hangers keep the bed end tidy. Housekeeping stays easy. The Pack&Go function deflates the mattress at the press of a button, the CPR function dumps air fast in an emergency with a transport mode for moves, and the four-way stretch cover is vapour permeable, machine washable to 95 degrees and finished with a well protected zipper. Key features: • Active alternating pressure replacement system for pressure injuries up to category 4 • 16 cm build with a safety mattress in HR foam beneath the air cells • Foam base keeps supporting the person if the air supply is interrupted • Integrated heel function offloads the heels • Individually replaceable air cells • Multifunctional inner cover helps reduce shear forces • Fully automatic pump identifies the user, no manual settings • Three program modes: Pulsating, Alternating and CLP (constant low pressure) • Caring mode (max firm) for transfers and personal care • Pack&Go function and CPR with a transport mode • Silent, vibration free running on low voltage 12 V power with smart cable management • Four-way stretch hygienic cover, vapour permeable and machine washable to 95 degrees

Why Clinicians Choose This Pressure Care Surface

  • 🛡️
A foam safety net underneathThe HR foam safety mattress keeps supporting the person if the air supply is interrupted, instead of letting them rest on the bed base
  • 🦶
Extra care for vulnerable heelsThe integrated heel function takes load off the heels, one of the first places pressure injuries develop
  • ⚙️
Switch on and walk awayThe pump recognises the user and optimises pressure by itself, so there are no settings for carers to get wrong
  • 🔧
Repairs, not replacementsIndividually replaceable cells mean a damaged cell is swapped in minutes rather than writing off the whole mattress

Frequently Asked Questions

Can this be funded through NDIS or Aged Care?
Yes, in most cases. Non-powered pressure relieving mattresses and overlays are commonly funded under NDIS Assistive Technology or Aged Care Home Care Packages when recommended by a clinician — typically an occupational therapist or wound care nurse. We are a registered NDIS provider and can supply quotes addressed to your plan manager or support coordinator.
What is the difference between an overlay, a mattress replacement, and an underlay?
An overlay sits on top of your existing mattress to add pressure relief — ideal for lower-risk users or as a first step. A mattress replacement removes your existing mattress entirely and provides a full clinical pressure care surface. An underlay sits beneath an alternating air overlay or mattress replacement to prevent 'bottoming out' and protect against pressure spikes. Our team can help you choose the right product for your clinical risk level.
How long does delivery take?
In-stock orders are dispatched the next business day. Standard delivery is 2–5 business days to most metro areas. Express options are available at checkout. Rural and remote deliveries may take slightly longer — contact us for an estimate.
Can I return it if it's not suitable?
Returns are accepted within 30 days for products in original, unused condition and packaging. Due to hygiene requirements, mattresses and overlays cannot be returned once used unless the product is faulty. If you are unsure which product is right for your clinical situation, we strongly recommend contacting our team before purchasing — we are happy to assist.
Can I trial the product before buying?
Yes — we offer in-person demonstrations at our Picton showroom. Can't make it to Picton? Contact our team and we'll do our best to help, including referrals to local allied health professionals in your area who can assist with product selection and trial.
