Patient Handling
Patient Handling Equipment — NDIS-Funded Transfer & Hoisting Aids, Delivered Australia-Wide
Safe patient handling protects both the person being cared for and the carer. Incorrect manual handling is one of the leading causes of musculoskeletal injury among carers — and one of the leading causes of falls and skin tears for the people being transferred. At Connect Mobility, we supply a range of NDIS-funded patient handling equipment including transfer belts, slide sheets, standing aids, hoist slings, and transfer boards. We deliver Australia-wide, with free in-home trials available across our local service area.
Patient handling equipment is funded under NDIS Assistive Technology (Support Category 05) for eligible participants. An occupational therapist assessment is typically required. Our team works directly with OTs and support coordinators across Australia to prepare NDIS-compliant quotes.

Understanding Patient Handling Equipment — Clinical Guide
Transfer Belts & Gait Belts: Give the carer a safe grip point without pulling on the person’s clothing or limbs. Appropriate for clients who have some weight-bearing capacity but need steadying support.
Slide Sheets & Turning Aids: Reduce friction during repositioning in bed. Critical for preventing shear injuries and protecting carer backs during lateral transfers.
Transfer Boards: Bridge the gap between two surfaces for clients who can perform a sliding transfer with minimal assistance. Particularly useful for clients with good upper body strength and lower limb weakness.
Standing & Raising Aids: Assist clients with some lower limb function to stand from a seated position. Powered sit-to-stand aids reduce the physical demand on both the client and carer while maintaining weight-bearing.
Hoist Slings: Used with a ceiling or mobile hoist for clients who cannot weight-bear at all. Sling selection is critical — the wrong sling for the client’s body shape or transfer type can cause discomfort or injury.
Frequently Asked Questions — Patient Handling & NDIS
Is patient handling equipment funded by NDIS?
Yes. Transfer aids, standing aids, slide sheets, and hoist slings are funded under NDIS Assistive Technology (Support Category 05) for participants requiring assistance with transfers. An OT assessment is typically required. Connect Mobility provides quotes for participants across Australia.
Do carers need training to use transfer and hoisting equipment?
Yes — correct technique is essential for both safety and dignity. Manual handling training is strongly recommended before using slide sheets, gait belts, or hoist slings. Your OT can include manual handling training as part of the AT assessment.
How do I know which transfer aid is right for my client?
The correct equipment depends on the person’s weight-bearing capacity, cognitive function, upper body strength, types of transfers required, and the home environment. An OT functional assessment is the best starting point. Our pharmacist can discuss the clinical picture with your OT wherever you are in Australia.
Can you provide a same-day quote for patient handling equipment?
Yes. We provide NDIS-compliant quotes within 2 hours for participants anywhere in Australia, priced within the current NDIS AT Price Guide 2025–26.

Yes. We deliver to all states and territories. Free in-home trials across Macarthur, Wollondilly, and the Southern Highlands. Free shipping on orders over $500 nationally.
