About This Product

The Optimal 5zon is a five-zone foam pressure care mattress from Care of Sweden, the Swedish specialist behind the CuroCell range. It replaces a standard mattress and helps prevent pressure injuries for people who spend long hours in bed, whether that is at home, in aged care or in hospital. It suits users at risk up to and including category 3, and it is rated to 180 kg. The name tells you how it works. Five zones divide the mattress so each part of the body gets the right level of support. The surface is cut into a pattern of small cubes, and lighter areas such as the heels sit on smaller cubes for a more even spread of pressure. The cold foam underneath is dense, 50 kg/m³ in the base and 65 kg/m³ up top, so the mattress resists bottoming out year after year. Sitting up matters as much as lying down. The patented DuoCore sit-function supports the hamstrings and pelvis when the user sits up in bed, holding a stable upright position for meals, conversation and easier breathing. Lie back down and the same mattress gives proper sleeping comfort. That is the part carers tend to notice first. Shear is the quiet cause of many pressure injuries. The 5zon's foam core is built in two lined layers that glide against each other when the user changes position, so the movement is absorbed by the mattress instead of the skin. The hygiene cover is vapour permeable and fluid resistant. Wipe it over with standard cleaning agents or disinfectants, or machine wash it at up to 95 degrees and tumble dry. The mattress is fire tested to EN 597-1 and EN 597-2 and carries a 5 year technical lifespan. Key features: • Static foam mattress for the prevention of pressure injuries, for risk up to and including category 3 • Five-zone module system gives effective pressure equalisation • Castellated surface with smaller cubes under lighter areas such as the heels • Patented DuoCore sit-function supports the hamstrings and pelvis for upright sitting • Two-part lined foam core reduces shear forces during position changes • Dense cold foam, 50 kg/m³ base and 65 kg/m³ top layer, resists bottoming out • Suits home, aged care and hospital environments, including pain therapy • Hygiene cover is vapour permeable, fluid resistant and wipes clean • Cover machine washable to 95 degrees, tumble dry safe • Fire tested to EN 597-1 and EN 597-2, CE-marked medical device • 5 year technical lifespan • Maximum user weight 180 kg

Why Clinicians Choose This Pressure Care Surface

  • 🎯
Support matched to each body partFive zones and a castellated surface give firmer support where the body is heavy and smaller cubes under lighter areas like the heels
  • 🪑
Sit up for meals with less effortThe patented DuoCore function supports the hamstrings and pelvis so an upright position in bed feels stable for eating and breathing
  • 🛡️
Less shear on fragile skinTwo lined foam layers glide against each other as the user changes position, absorbing the shear forces that damage skin
  • 🧼
Hygiene made straightforwardThe vapour permeable, fluid resistant cover wipes clean and machine washes at up to 95 degrees, then goes in the tumble dryer

Frequently Asked Questions

Can this be funded through NDIS or Aged Care?
Yes, in most cases. Non-powered pressure relieving mattresses and overlays are commonly funded under NDIS Assistive Technology or Aged Care Home Care Packages when recommended by a clinician — typically an occupational therapist or wound care nurse. We are a registered NDIS provider and can supply quotes addressed to your plan manager or support coordinator.
What is the difference between an overlay, a mattress replacement, and an underlay?
An overlay sits on top of your existing mattress to add pressure relief — ideal for lower-risk users or as a first step. A mattress replacement removes your existing mattress entirely and provides a full clinical pressure care surface. An underlay sits beneath an alternating air overlay or mattress replacement to prevent 'bottoming out' and protect against pressure spikes. Our team can help you choose the right product for your clinical risk level.
How long does delivery take?
In-stock orders are dispatched the next business day. Standard delivery is 2–5 business days to most metro areas. Express options are available at checkout. Rural and remote deliveries may take slightly longer — contact us for an estimate.
Can I return it if it's not suitable?
Returns are accepted within 30 days for products in original, unused condition and packaging. Due to hygiene requirements, mattresses and overlays cannot be returned once used unless the product is faulty. If you are unsure which product is right for your clinical situation, we strongly recommend contacting our team before purchasing — we are happy to assist.
Can I trial the product before buying?
Yes — we offer in-person demonstrations at our Picton showroom. Can't make it to Picton? Contact our team and we'll do our best to help, including referrals to local allied health professionals in your area who can assist with product selection and trial.
