Which Complete Sleeprrr pillow suits you?
Written by Nadim Assaf, registered pharmacist, Connect Mobility in Picton
All four Sleeprrr pillows look the same on the shelf. Let's look at what's different inside each one, and how to set yours up.
One shape, four foams
Every Complete Sleeprrr has the same shape. It's about 52 cm long and 38 cm deep. One long edge is 12 cm high and the other is 14 cm, with a dip in between for your head.
What changes is the foam. The Original, Plus and Gel are memory foam in three different feels. The Deluxe is traditional foam, and it's the firmest of the four. All of them are made in Australia by TheraMed.
The clever part is that you can change the pillow yourself. Two foam inserts slide out from inside to lower it. Foam "noodles" sit in channels along the top, and pulling them out makes the surface softer. TheraMed says that gives you up to 12 ways to set it up.
The underside is scalloped along the edges. That lets your shoulder tuck in a little when you lie on your side.
Height matters more
A pillow's job is to keep your head and neck in line with your spine. Healthdirect puts it simply. Your pillow should keep your head in its natural position, and not be too high.
If you sleep on your side, the pillow has to fill the gap between your ear and the mattress. Broad shoulders need more height. Slim shoulders need less. If you sleep on your back, you'll usually want less height again.
That's why the adjustable inserts matter. Most pillows are the height they are. With a Sleeprrr, you can take height out until your neck feels right.
Picking the feel
Original. Soft memory foam. TheraMed says it suits most people, and it's their most popular version. If you're unsure, start here.
Plus. The same shape in a firmer memory foam. TheraMed recommends it for broader frames. It suits people who sink too far into softer pillows.
Gel. The softest of the four. The memory foam has cooling gel mixed through it, which slows down how fast the pillow warms up. It's aimed at people who sleep hot, including women going through menopause.
Deluxe. Traditional foam instead of memory foam, and the firmest feel. It doesn't mould to your head the same way. It's also the cheapest at $95, and it's a few centimetres longer than the others.
Setting it up
Start with every insert and noodle in place. Sleep on it for a few nights before you change anything. TheraMed says you only get a real feel for a pillow after a few nights.
If it feels too firm, take out some noodles. If your head feels pushed up, take out one insert and try again. Change one thing at a time.
Keep the pieces you remove. Memory foam softens with use, and each channel can take up to three noodles if you want to firm it up later.
What people say
Most reviews are positive, and the Original has hundreds of them on TheraMed's own site. People mention waking without a stiff neck. One reviewer said their first Sleeprrr lasted ten years.
The common complaints are fair to know about. Some people find it too firm at first. Others notice a foam smell out of the box. A few find the Gel too soft to hold their head up.
Most of those are fixable. Pull out noodles if it's too firm. Air the pillow for a day or two if it smells, and TheraMed suggests a little baking soda.
What it won't do
TheraMed lists snoring and sleep apnoea among the things these pillows help with. The Sleep Health Foundation says snoring is almost always worse on your back. So a pillow that keeps you on your side may help a little.
But a pillow isn't a treatment for sleep apnoea. If you snore loudly, stop breathing in your sleep, or wake up tired, see your GP. You may need a sleep study.
The research on pillows and neck pain is also mixed. An Australian study of side sleepers found a contoured foam pillow did no better than a regular foam one. A 2025 review couldn't show that any one type of pillow fixes long-term neck pain. We'd rather tell you that than oversell it. The best pillow is the one that keeps your neck straight and that you sleep well on.
Looking after it
Never wash the foam or put it in the dryer. Vacuum it, spot clean with a damp cloth and mild detergent, and dry it flat out of direct sun.
The mesh slip is hand wash only, in lukewarm water, then line dry. It holds the inserts in place, so put it back on before you sleep.
A pillowcase isn't included. Use your own over the mesh slip. The Original is also sold with a fully enclosed pillow protector for $150.

Questions we get
Which side is for side sleeping?
Try both. The 14 cm side gives more height, which broader shoulders usually need. If your neck feels pushed up, turn it around or take out an insert.
Will a normal pillowcase fit?
Yes. It's close to a standard pillow size. Put your pillowcase on over the mesh slip.
I sleep on my side and my hips ache too.
A pillow between your knees can help. Our side sleeping pillow guide compares the options.
