Bariatric Equipment — NDIS-Funded Heavy-Duty Mobility Aids, Delivered Australia-Wide
Bariatric-rated wheelchairs, walkers, lift chairs, commodes, and shower chairs built for higher weight capacities — all available with NDIS funding. At Connect Mobility, our pharmacist-led team understands the clinical and practical requirements of bariatric equipment. We offer free in-home assessments across Wollondilly, Macarthur and the Southern Highlands, and Australia-wide delivery for all other locations.
Most bariatric mobility aids are funded under NDIS Assistive Technology (Support Category 05) for eligible participants. An occupational therapist assessment is typically required to confirm clinical need and appropriate product specification. Our team liaises directly with your OT to prepare compliant quotes.

Choosing Bariatric Equipment — What to Consider
Weight Rating: Always confirm the user’s weight — including clothing and any items carried — is within the rated capacity. Standard mobility equipment is typically rated to 100–130kg. Bariatric products extend from 160kg through to 300kg+ depending on the category.
Seat Width & Dimensions: Bariatric users require wider seat widths to prevent tissue compression at the hips. For wheelchairs and shower chairs, seat width should be 2–4cm wider than the user’s hips. Bariatric models typically start at 50–60cm wide.
Frame Construction: Bariatric frames use heavier-gauge steel or reinforced aluminium with wider axle spacing and reinforced joints. Never use standard-rated equipment beyond its rated load.
Bathroom & Home Access: Bariatric commodes and shower chairs are wider and may not fit through standard doorways. Our team assesses doorway widths, shower access, and floor surfaces during free in-home consultations before any recommendation is made.
NDIS Funding: Most bariatric mobility aids are funded under NDIS Assistive Technology (Support Category 05). An OT assessment is typically required to confirm clinical need and appropriate product specification.
