About This Product

The Active Air 5 is an alternating pressure overlay from Aspire, Aidacare's equipment range. Rather than replacing the mattress, it lies on top and turns an ordinary bed into an active pressure care surface. It is rated for people at medium risk of pressure injury and suits home care, aged care and hospital settings alike. The surface is made up of 16 air cells, each 130 mm deep. Thirteen of them inflate and deflate in a 1 in 2 alternating cycle, shifting load from one part of the body to the next before pressure has a chance to build. The three cells under the head stay static, so the pillow area feels settled rather than restless. When alternation is not what the moment calls for, Intelligent Static Mode and Continuous Low Pressure (CLP) ease the surface into deeper immersion and comfort. The digital pump does the thinking for you. AutoDetect reads the user's weight and size and sets the pressure output automatically, so setup involves no guesswork. The LCD screen shows cycle time, operating mode and fault codes at a glance, and AutoLock secures the control panel 30 seconds after the last touch. The pump runs with little noise or vibration, and if the power fails, 24 hour Transport Mode holds air in the overlay so the user can stay safely on an inflated surface until power returns. The practical details are handled too. Welded seams and zip protection keep fluids and bacteria out of the system. The multi-stretch cover reduces shear against the skin, breathes with a high moisture vapour transfer rate, and machine washes at 95 degrees for proper sanitising. Even the power cord is retained within the overlay so it never becomes a trip hazard. Safe working load is 30 to 175 kg, and both pump and overlay carry a 2 year warranty. Key features: • Alternating pressure overlay rated for medium risk pressure injury prevention • 16 air cells (13 alternating, 3 static head cells) with a 1 in 2 alternating cycle • 130 mm cell depth in Single (2000 x 850 mm) and King Single (2000 x 1050 mm) sizes • AutoDetect sets the correct pressure automatically from the user's weight and size • Intelligent Static Mode and Continuous Low Pressure (CLP) for immersion and comfort • Digital pump with easy-to-read LCD showing cycle time, mode and fault codes • AutoLock control panel locks itself 30 seconds after the last press • 24 hour Transport Mode keeps the overlay inflated through a power failure • Low noise, low vibration pump for a quieter sleep environment • Welded seams and zip protection block fluid and bacterial ingress • Multi-stretch cover reduces shear, with a high moisture vapour transfer rate • Power cord retained within the overlay, removing a trip hazard • Cover machine washable at 95 degrees • Safe working load 30 to 175 kg, 2 year warranty on pump and overlay

Frequently Asked Questions

Can this be funded through NDIS or Aged Care?
Yes, in most cases. Non-powered pressure relieving mattresses and overlays are commonly funded under NDIS Assistive Technology or Aged Care Home Care Packages when recommended by a clinician — typically an occupational therapist or wound care nurse. We are a registered NDIS provider and can supply quotes addressed to your plan manager or support coordinator.
What is the difference between an overlay, a mattress replacement, and an underlay?
An overlay sits on top of your existing mattress to add pressure relief — ideal for lower-risk users or as a first step. A mattress replacement removes your existing mattress entirely and provides a full clinical pressure care surface. An underlay sits beneath an alternating air overlay or mattress replacement to prevent 'bottoming out' and protect against pressure spikes. Our team can help you choose the right product for your clinical risk level.
How long does delivery take?
In-stock orders are dispatched the next business day. Standard delivery is 2–5 business days to most metro areas. Express options are available at checkout. Rural and remote deliveries may take slightly longer — contact us for an estimate.
Can I return it if it's not suitable?
Returns are accepted within 30 days for products in original, unused condition and packaging. Due to hygiene requirements, mattresses and overlays cannot be returned once used unless the product is faulty. If you are unsure which product is right for your clinical situation, we strongly recommend contacting our team before purchasing — we are happy to assist.
Can I trial the product before buying?
Yes — we offer in-person demonstrations at our Picton showroom. Can't make it to Picton? Contact our team and we'll do our best to help, including referrals to local allied health professionals in your area who can assist with product selection and trial.
